Limpopo province offers visitors beautiful natural attractions, rich cultural heritage, and an authentic bushveld experience. This is also the province of South Africa’s first kingdom the Kingdom of Mapungubwe. There is a lot to see and experience in the northernmost province of South Africa. Here are some places you might consider visiting if you are planning a day trip.


Mapungubwe National Park

Mapungubwe National Park and World Heritage Site is one of the best attractions found in Limpopo Province. The national park is one for the bucket list, it is full of history, cultural attractions, amazing landscape and wildlife. There are many activities to do such as game drives, walking trails. There are also braai areas and picnic areas to relax with family and friends. Furthermore, you will be able to have a glimpse of the big 5. Sagole Baobab Tree

The Sagole Baobab tree or the big tree is a must-see while visiting Limpopo. One mind blowing fact about Sagole is that it is the biggest baobab tree in the world. The tree is believed to be 3 500 years old and stands 22 metres high. It is a beautiful and serene place to visit and spend time admiring nature. The big tree is also referred to as the “tree of life” and is often a source for the locals in making medicine and shelter.



Magoebaskloof

Makgoebaskloof is such a lovely drive and mini-getaway for locals and visitors. The scenic mountainous pass is covered by a lush and evergreen subtropical forest which is a marvel to look at. Magoebaskloof also possesses a natural wonder known as Debengeni waterfalls, coupled up with many forest hiking trails. The Limpopo province has a rich source of natural hot springs. Bela Bela is famous for its hot springs because of the geothermic hot springs. Thathe Vondo Forest

The Thathe Vondo forest is regarded as the most majestic and beautiful forest in the Limpopo region. Thathe Vondo is also regarded as sacred by the local Venda people. The forest is a peaceful place to visit and is filled with majestic views all around. Different types of trees make up the Thathe Vondo Forest. Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre

Zwakala has a great vibe and offers a selection of local craft beer and gin. The food is delicious with a variety of options on the menu as well as having a kids play area. All in all, this is a great place to relax with friends and family.

Setsong tea experience is a great way you as a traveler can support local based tourism while visiting Limpopo. Thulamela

Thulamela which means ‘place of birth’ in the VhaVenda language is a stone citadel which is regarded as one of the most important archaeological sites in South Africa. Lying west of Pafuri, Thulamela was a stone-walled city on top of a plateau in the Soutpansberg, and archaeological digs there revealed a well-organised mountain kingdom, ruled by an African monarch that flourished between 1200 and 1600 AD. Evidence of early humans is also found in the area, dating back some 1.5 million years.



Olifants River Safaris is another unusual way to experience the abundance of game life in Limpopo. Activities here can involve two hour boat rides spotting gigantic crocodiles, hippo, kudu, elephants, buffalo, and giraffe on the banks of the river which is a magnificent way to explore nature.
